GO - STOP - GO

What is the government trying do with the Go - STOP - GO with the Aquis Casino/Resort?

The intended Aquis Casino/Resort

WE MUST MOVE CAUTIOUSLY AND UNDERSTAND ALL THE FACTS BECAUSE IF STARTED THERE IS NO TURNING BACK.

This project came out of the blue in 2013 with no consultation, still no consultation then in January 2014 the Premier said "we will not be rushed into making decisions in regards to Aquis so it became apparent that the process could take up tp another 12 months before it was known if the Fung's had been successful in winning a casino licence.

The EIS report was supposed to be available in early January 2014 but as yet NOTHING - WHY?

Are they holding off hoping that people will forget the report and then say "IT'S ALL GO GO GO".

Then in February 2014 the Premier on Talkback Radio said that he wanted the project to start ASAP and would work with the Fung's to see if the Reef Casino could be shared with the Aquis project.

Again people are asking "why do we need two casinos for a population of approx 160,00 people" and why build it at Yorkeys as it will change peoples lives for ever.

There is not the adequate transport, water resources, sewage and there has to be an electricity sub-station built to handle the power sources.

It would have been better to build the casino/resort in the city near the airport where better availability of facilities are available.

Other problems that come to mind is that there is not a building contractor in Cairns that would have the capabilities of taking on the challenge so there has to be contractors outside of Cairns that would have to be appointed to build this resort

Most of all the large building contractors have gone under or moved south.

The Premier has stated in a letter to me dated  27 November, 2013, (the full letter can viewed in the "older Blogs" section):

"To arrive at the best possible policy, we'll need to consider the issue from all angles and listen to all ideas and voices in the community"

Well this hasn't been done except by the Aquis Aware Group who called a meeting on December 4, 2013 which was frowned upon by our local representatives.

Mr Premier the community needs you to listen to their concerns whether it be for it or against it.
