Crowd cheers as QLD teen girls brawl -- The onlookers should be ashamed of themselves

Although this event took place some time ago it shows what some adults do when something like this occurs.
They stand there cheer on the 2 girls instead of intervening and stopping the brawling before anyone gets injured.
The adults in the video should hang their head in shame.
This is something we don't want our visitors to see, absolute disgrace.

Todays Headlines

As reported in the Cairns Post
August 28, 2014.

BREAKING BAD: Dentist Dr Daniel Richards is furious after thieves got into his second storey office and stole about $13,000 in cash, along with damaging a wall getting in. They're one of around 30 businesses who have been hit within 3 weeks in the Cairns CBD.

The crime never seems to go away and again I say "when will the politicians realise that the crime will steadily increase until the JUDICIARY SYSTEM is overhauled".
The government can pass as many bills or legislation as they like but until there is a "MINIMUM & MAXIMUM" sentence legislated then we will continue to have people being assaulted, robbed, houses broken into and sexual attacks.
I can't understand why the Attorney General hasn't come up legislation as they did with the bikies and with some of them having moved interstate to avoid what they call police harassment so maybe the legislation should apply to other crimes as listed above.
Will they (government) ever consider that, probably not, so eventually the vigilantes will start to surface and if that does occur then there will be unnecessary blood shed as residents are fed up to the teeth of all the pussy footing around.
The whole crime scene is increasing to more serious crimes  since I founded Residents Against Crimes and no one is listening and one wonders "what do you do next".

I say to the government let's get serious and stop monkeying around and listen to what the residents and victims are saying.

Crime is still the same

We have heard in recent months that crime is on the decline, REALLY,
The crime in Cairns is still a serious concern and residents are still concerned for their safety.
We still have overseas visitors and locals being assaulted and robbed only to be slapped in the face by the laughable sentences being handed down.
Until this government shows some strength in making sure that the appropriate sentences are handed down then nothing will change  -- except the government.
If we allow the crime to get out of hand then there's no turning back because crime will rule and the police no matter what they do it will not overcome the crime that occurs.
The government needs to be tough but fair.

This is what the Member for Cairns had to say even though he made a statement not that long that we were on top of the crime.......

http://www.cairnsvideonews.com/2014/08/were-on-top-of-crime-but-there-is-still.html
THE VICTIMS COME FIRST..........

The Police Minister doesn't even know!!! What the hell is going on?

Is there a secret investigation going on to change things to suit a few without informing the Police Minister?
Maybe there should be a full investigation within "TOP MANAGEMENT" of the Police force and ask the question as to why the union wasn't consulted and more importantly why wasn't the Police Minister consulted.
There should be questions raised about this issue and a number of other things.
The thought of using civilians for the training of Police Cadets is absolutely ludicrous and the thought the police service could be privatised, "what's wrong with this bloody government" it maybe only a thought at the moment but governments can do stupid things.
We as residents of this state of Queensland should stand up to this government and say "NO" to the training by civilians and even the thought of privatisation.
Maybe if the government got rid of some of the "top management" then maybe the force would be more efficient and could save some money in that area.
The police officers do a great job with what they have but they are still understaffed and we hear from our local pollies that Cairns has received 10, 15 or 20 new recruits which bolsters our numbers.
No it doesn't it just fills the gaps from retirements, transfers, resignations and officers acting in higher positions.
Police officers will tell you the numbers haven't increased and the police unions would agree.
DON'T LET OUR POLICE FORCE GO BACKWARDS LET'S ALL GIVE THE GOVERNMENT A CLEAR AND STRONG MESSAGE THAT WE WILL NOT TOLERATE A DECLINE IN POLICE TRAINING OR SERVICES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.

The ACCC clears Tony Fung takeover of the Reef Casino

Reef Casino Cairns

The ACCC has given Tony Fung the go ahead with the purchase of the Reef Casino however this can't be completed until after the 31 October, 2014 when the ASX is closed.

The ACCC Commissioner stated:
ACCC Commissioner Jill Walker
ACCC Commissioner Jill Walker said the watchdog believed it was unlikely there would be competition between the proposed $8.15b Aquis integrated resort and casinos and the CBD-based Reef Hotel Casino.
An ACCC statement said Aquis currently had no existing casino interests in Australia or anywhere.
Ms Walker said the ACCC had carefully reviewed the proposed acquisition because it had the potential to reduce the future number of casino owners in Cairns from two to one.
“However, the ACCC’s investigations suggested that there was likely to be limited competition between the Reef Casino and the Aquis Resort in the absence of the proposed acquisition,” she said.
“Development of the Aquis Resort is still at an early stage and is conditional on a number of factors.

CEO Justin Fung
Following this announcement developer Justin Fung announced  that he intends to transform the Reef Casino into a mini Aquis as a teaser to the real thing.
Justin you may like to consider the following, why not   upgrade the Reef Casino to what you have intended for Yorkeys Knob and keep the casino in the CBD where businesses could get some benefit from the travelling Chinese.
You could save yourself some $7 billion and keep everyone on side and still reap the benefits.
Another suggestion is to acquire the land at East Trinity which would be free in lieu of the dredging, take the dredging from the inlet to build up the land and build a resort similar to the Yorkeys design and you could boat (as in water taxi) the guests over to the casino or better still build the mega resort/casino on the East Trinity land.
As reported by the Financial Review dated 16 November, 2013 they have stated:

Todays headlines: 67% support mega resort -- WHO DID THEY ASK?

In todays Cairns Post a report stated that 67% Cairns locals overwhelming support for the proposed $8.5 billion Aquis Casino Resort.

What area was surveyed? what questions did they ask? how many Yorkeys residents were surveyed?

I have asked a number of people in Yorkeys whether they had been surveyed and the answer was a definite "NO".

Read the comments from the Cairns Post:

http://www.cairnspost.com.au/news/cairns/aquis-megaresort-at-yorkeys-knob-on-wave-of-public-approval-in-cairns/comments-fnjpusyw-1227030240164

Remember when a survey was carried out for the Cairns Entertainment Centre, the results then were stated as 95% for the project and that project was hit on the head.

The results for the Aquis Resort is only 67% in favour which is a 28% decline in  support for Aquis.

This survey was carried out by ReachTEL poll, commissioned by Aquis on August 11 of 1212 residents, shows 67.2 per cent support the project (51 per cent strongly support) while 20.7 per cent were opposed (13.6 per cent strongly opposed). Of those surveyed 1.2 per cent had never heard of Aquis while 10.9 per cent remained neutral. .

Here is the link showing the results of the survey:

 https://www.reachtel.com.au/blog/aquis-resort-cairns-lga-poll-11august2014

Surveys are same everywhere and are pinpointed to areas where it is known that support can be substantiated and we all know that surveys are not reliable even politicians will tell you that.

Again we see Advance Cairns, Chamber of Commerce, Business Community, Yorkeys Knob Progress Association all coming out and supporting this project without first asking the important questions:

(1). What infrastructure has been discussed and put up for discussion.

(2). Water and sewage are very important factors in this project but as yet nothing has been put forward.
Cairns residents are on water restrictions with watering allowed on ODD & EVEN house numbering and usually only by hand watering.

The Copperlode dam is the only source of water for the whole of Cairns so can it cope if this mega structure goes ahead without another dam being considered and even if it was it would take anything from 10 to 15 years to build.

(3). What about the possibility of flooding, the EIS did not explain how the information was obtained and collated and will not hand over any information to the JCU at Smithfield so that it can be tested ..... WHY NOT.

Transport is a another problem that will cause concerns and without upgraded roads there is no chance of the system being able to cope with the increase in traffic and more importantly who is going to pay for all this upgrade.

The ratepayers that's who, Tony Fung said recently in the media that he would "consider" paying a proportion towards the upgrade, not like his original statement to the then $4.2 billion casino/resort where he said that "he would pay for the road upgrades etc".

If construction begins how will Yorkeys Road be able to cope with all the traffic such as trucks going to and from the resort site possibly 24/7 and locals trying to get to and from work because at the present time travelling into and out of the city in peak times is a test for people's patients.

Business houses, probably pushed by the Chamber of Commerce are under the impression that this project will bring $$$$$ to the Cairns business owners, building this type of costly project the developer will make sure that he has all the requirements within his project and will not require guests to go shopping elsewhere..... he is not going to give business away and let money go elsewhere..... common sense.

We all realise that that unemployment in Cairns is high and people are looking at this project to be a god saver but do we ever consider some of the consequences such increased criminal activity, money laundering, people being forced into prostitution for various reasons these are some of the concerns we all should take into consideration.

Also the Chinese have "demanded" that the Australian Government issue work visas to the Chinese so that they can work on Chinese projects in Australia.

This is what Denis Walls from Aquis Aware had to say in the Cairns Post Wednesday Aug 20, 2014:

Aquis Aware Coalition of Concerned Citizens spokesman Denis Walls said surveys were usually written to suit the needs of the interest group who paid for them.

"This is an Aquis sponsored survey that does not ask any of the hard questions of concern to local people," he said.

Mr Walls said the survey did not ask questions about the potential impacts of a population increase of 50,000 over the next five years, whether the city’s infrastructure could cope and if residents were comfortable with the city being marketed as a mega-gambling destination.

Tony hasn't got Aquis yet but he does have a new toy a refurbished secondhand 757

Come fly with me and fly me away

Tony Fung's new toy
How will the gamblers get here? Well Tony Fung's refurbished secondhand 757 could fly them here and back home again.

Aquis corporate jet Boeing 757-200. Last manufactured in 2005. More than 1000 built over 23 years. Commercial passenger capacity: 200. Aquis has about 30 leather first class seats, including individual recliners, lounges and dining tables. Brought out of storage and refitted earlier this year. A basic second-hand 757 is $6m$10m with a total VIP conversion price tag of $28m-$35m. Registered in Barbados: VQ-BTF. Billionaire Donald Trump’s 757 is the most high profile, costing $100m, and includes gold tap fittings. Fuel capacity: 43,490 litres. Range: 7222km. Cruising speed: 980km/h. Length: 47.32m.
Although he doesn't have the investors as yet for Aquis  they can start to practice the fly in flyout routine and are the intentions to cut out the other airlines? not bad thinking, anything could happen.

This is a small proportion of what was reported in the Cairns Post today (August 19, 2014):

http://www.cairnspost.com.au/business/hong-kong-tycoon-encouraged-by-interest-in-aquis-resort-plan/story-fnjpusdv-1227028595398

HONG KONG tycoon Tony Fung is buoyed by the “positive” feedback from Chinese investors to his $8.15 billion Aquis mega-resort planned for Yorkeys Knob.
Tony Fung

There were plenty of smiles, handshakes and laughter as he and son Justin escorted the first wave of eight through the Cairns International Airport terminal to the new Aquis Boeing 757 corporate jet yesterday.

They included China Poly Group Corporation president Zhang Zhengao – on his first visit to Cairns – who has had a business relationship with Mr Fung for 20 years.

“I’m doing it gingerly because I don’t have everything in my hand.

“It’s coming, progress is good, it’s not there yet, but I’m not complaining.’’

Mr Fung said the investors were backed by “very large” capital funding and the group of eight were the first he had personally hosted.

He said the investors visited the Yorkeys Knob site, the Reef Hotel Casino (which he has made a $269 million takeover bid for), the Great Barrier Reef by helicopter, other parts of the Far North and attended special dinners over the weekend.

(keep in mind that the ASX doesn't close until the 31 October, 2014 so total ownership of the Reef Hotel Casino will be in limbo till then and not forgetting the ACCC inquiry).

Mr Trout said it put to bed speculation that Aquis could not be funded, because it was clear the Fung's had access to vast amounts of investor finance.

He said Mr Zhang knew how important the Chinese market was to Cairns and ask pertinent questions about the polictical stability in Queensland and Australia.

Wonder what the answer to that was?

As far as the finance goes Tony Fung "may" have access to investor money but will they (the investor) be prepared to part with vast amounts of cash on something that may not go ahead.

The EIS is still up in the air as the Co-Ordinator General department received 250 replies and if he does his job properly he will have to scrutinise all 250 replies.

If there is found to be problems then those problems will have to be rectified and then reconsidered and all of this could another 12 months and don't forget the ACCC  inquiry.

Oh! forgot there is an election in March 2015 so there could be a new government or the present one with a very small majority which in today atmosphere tends to be a good thing.

We just have to wait, wait and wait to see the results.

We're on top of the crime... but there is still too much crime in Cairns - - Well well what have people been saying?

The Member for Cairns Gavin King has spoken about the crime on a number of occasions and has stated that the (government) were on top of the crime and has been reduced.
Then on Tuesday August the 5, 2014 The member for Cairns spoke on talk-back radio in cairns and stated that there is still too much crime in Cairns.
The crime has always been there and is getting more serious as time goes on.
How do we rectify the situation? the government needs to radically overhaul the justice system and until that is done NOTHING WILL CHANGE and the residents will continue to suffer the pain and discomfort of either being robbed, assaulted or living in fear from these young hoodlums.
Some politicians wouldn't understand this way of living which is a shame.
I am utterly disgusted with the way the government has completely ignored the judicial system but seem to sprout figures figures which really means bugger all.
I remember back in 2008 when radio host John McKenzie was interviewing Judy Spence the then Police Minister who explained the new crime figures to John who in turn said the figures were "fudge" so we now have a new government and there is no reason why these figures aren't "fudge" also.
As I have said before if the government doesn't do something positive the vigilantes will start popping up and someone will get seriously injured.
How long do the residents of this state have to wait for some real positive action instead of a band-aid solution on crime.

Here's what the member said:

Residents call for Aquis mega resort rejection from Yorkeys

As reported in the Cairns Post
Monday August 8, 2014

VISION: An artist's impression of the main entrance of the $8.15 billion Aquis Great Barrier Reef Resort at Yorkeys Knob.

A COMMUNITY group has recommended Queensland’s Co-ordinator General reject Aquis, claiming there is not enough known about the mega-resort’s social and environmental impact on Cairns.
The Aquis Aware Coalition of Concerned Citizens has publicly released its submission on the $8 million project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

You can read Aquis Aware's submission here: http://aquisaware.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/EIS-Submission.pdf

A lot of people are saying "go ahead & build, there will thousands of jobs (really) in earlier reports on this site it was stated that the Chinese Government are "demanding" that the Australian Government issue work visas for Chinese workers to be able to work on Chinese projects.

Read article here: http://www.cairnsvideonews.com/2014/05/can-these-people-make-up-their-minds.html

Residents really need to google the web and read all the  information that's available before agreeing that this project should go ahead as there are a number of problems that have arisen and no information has come forth.

At a recent Council meeting to discuss the EIS there have been concerns in regards to the infrastructure such as electricity, sewage, housing and roads with the developer now saying that he will pay only a portion of the costs which one has to ask how much is he willing to pay or are the residents going to have to foot the bill.

This is a report from the council meeting held on Tuesday August 5, 2014
One notable item from the meeting was that all councillors were "gagged" from making comment on the report and why wasn't it made public.

CAIRNS Regional Council is worried about a housing shortage if Aquis goes ahead, saying a deal needs to struck between it, the resort-casino’s developers and Queensland Government so the city doesn’t hit a population “brick wall”.
However, Cairns Mayor Bob Manning has not given any guarantees residents will not be burdened with a rate rise, only assuring the council will not be placed in an unfair financial position by the $8 billion development.
Submissions to Queensland’s Co-ordinator General in response to the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the mega-resort closed Wednesday August 6, 2014.

The project is to include artificial lakes, islands, eight hotels, a golf course, convention centre and two casinos.
At a special meeting yesterday, councillors unanimously endorsed the council’s EIS submission. The council also appointed the mayor as its sole spokesman on the submission, which Cr Manning said was to ensure there were no conflicting views about the issue.
While the council’s formal submission will remain under wraps, it has released a community statement, based on the submission.
The statement says there is need for further information about housing and infrastructure, particularly whether additional population associated with the development will have significant flow-on impacts for the city and state.
he EIS has estimated a construction workforce of up to 3750 people, with an operational workforce of about 20,000 people.
“This latter figure does not take into account the families of those workers, so a conservative estimate would put the total population demanded by the proposed development at around 25-30,000 people (additional to the planned growth of Cairns) – about the size of Gladstone,’’ the statement says.

The word used to be "WHEN" now it's "IF"

When the Aquis project first surfaced business owners, Politicians, Chamber of Commerce and Councillors all were shouting from the highest building that when it gets started and now some politicians are saying "IF" it gets started.
The positivity seems to have waned in some circles and it's not hard to understand why, the community consultation has been virtually zero but the Fungs and the consultants (Flanagans) met with the business people including the Chamber of Commerce and council and had the whole project explained to them.
Why not the same for the residents? We are the ones that are going to have this project built within our community and one could quite safely say that rates will go sky high and people will suffer one way or another.
It was interesting to note that when this project surfaced back in 2012 the developers were going to upgrade the roads to four lanes, build a new road from the resort to Caravonica and also talking about about building overpasses at Caravonica, this will never happen within years to come.
With the latest design which looks like something from a fairyland tale the developers have said that they wanted roads upgraded and even a 4 lane road from Caravonica to Freshwater but will only assist with a proportion of the cost, so if the council decides to upgrade anything significantly you can be assured that your rates will sky rocket.
The Cairns regional Council held a closed meeting to discuss the EIS, why a closed meeting this concerns all ratepayers and the residents voted their particular representatives to represent them at council meetings not to hide behind closed doors and then “gag” councillors from speaking outside of the meeting room of what transpired.
It was interesting to hear the Member for Cairns speaking to talk-back radio host John McKenzie today and saying that 99% of people he spoke to agreed with the Aquis project, pretty high percentage rate when no survey had been conducted so how do these people get these figures.
Most of the people talking to the pollies probably haven't even bothered to google the web to find out any information that is relevant to this project and if they had it may change their mind to some extent.
Professor Nott who spoke at the community meeting at JCU bought up some relevant points that should concern a lot of residents and the representative from the Co-ordinators General's office appeared to be quite surprised at what Professor Nott had to say and was noting down the comments which he would have reported back to the Co-ordinator General the next day.
It is hoped that the Co-Ordinated Generals office, State Government and Cairns Regional Council seriously consider concerns that have been raised and not let this project go ahead without all avenues being fully investigated.
Below is the discussion from today's talk-back program:
