UPDATE: Smithfield bypass...

It's interesting to read what the TMR had to say in regards to the updated bypass:
Investigation undertaken throughout the project design phase has identified significant costs savings and improved outcomes by progressing a planned future stage of the SBP now rather than in the years to come. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has listened to the community and its stakeholders, REALLY, and worked collaboratively with HAJV, to identify a solution which will provide significantly improved value for money outcomes for this major project.
How can they have listened to the community when the updated bypass design was released last Thursday and the new design is online today.
Something not right here especially when Mark Bailey and Craige Crawford knew nothing about it until late Thursday.
So who did authorise and release the changes" no one is saying.
Either the Minister or Craige Crawford need to give a full explanation for the change in direction and advise the constituents of the full cost.

We're in for another change

Well, it looks like we are in for another change of direction as far as the Smithfield bypass goes. Reports on the news indicate that the bypass will now exit at Caravonica (as shown by the green line may not be exact). The Caravonica roundabout will be removed and the movements will be controlled by traffic lights. The cost of the by pass was around $152 million so now with the removal of the roundabout and probably road changes and \additional costs for the traffic lights one has to ask how much will this cost. The change was bought on by the construction firm who suggested that the "interchage" should be located at the Caravonica intersection and not the Yorkeys roundabout. All the bypass is doing is bypassing the Smithfield roundabout but now with lights and revamped intersection is this really going to solve the problem?
