Bob, give up it's not going to happen

How many times do you say "it's not going to happen" but then someone raises the issue again and again.
What are we talking about you ask well it's AQUIS and the Cairns Mayor is still babbling on about putting pressure on the State Government to approve this monstrosity that locals are beginning to despise by the hour.
There are some people who are still preying that it will go ahead but who haven't really looked at the overall situation such as:
Fung doesn't have the money.
Has failed to complete the requirements in Queensland, what happens in Canberra has no bearing on Queensland's requirements.
It would appear that Tony Fung has found his niche on the Gold Coast with the purchasing of the Sheraton Mirage and intends to put a casino in there.
Justin Fung stated on ABC radio that the Gold Coast has everything that you want and then Jetstar announces new direct from the Gold Coast to China, coincidence don't think so.
The Fungs are also upgrading the Canberra Casino buy spending up to $300 million dollars and the casino doesn't even have poker machines.
Bob, you stated in the Cairns Post: "Cr Manning said he was unrelenting in his quest to have the project earmarked for Yorkeys Knob approved and started".
By now Mr Mayor you should have realised that it isn't going to happen, they have stuffed around, don't have the finance and haven't completed the requirements.
Give it a miss and concentrate on more important things for this town.
Listed below are some of the comments from Facebook:

Vick Kandiah Probity checks needed no short cuts
Also the need of thousands of foreign labour to construct when 800000 Australian out of job

Larry Klemm Goes to show, someone starts off well then inexplicably loses the plot. Bob has seen how foreign investment works (sic) in Cairns, why would you repeat mistake after mistake.

Jane Linthicum Manning seems to clutch at straws a lot recently. Making Abbott look good with all these irrational outbursts lately.

Ian Locke Let's hope it doesn't happen for Cairns and surrounding area , will be the end off our lifestyle!! And how much has it cost for ratepayers already!!?

Wilko Strongly People seem to think that only foreign builders will be used. I hate to say it but you are being narrow minded to think it will boost economy for the time its being built then after for at least 12 months.

Wilko Strongly Ok what about food. Entertainment, road construction, earth works, materials supplies, registered construction people who need to be licensed. What about housing these people while in construction.

James Morris What's the hold up they already passed probity checks in the ACT so why the delay here and foreign investment does work in Cairns many properties in Cairns are owned by foreign companies and daikyo left paradise palms and other great developments

Dan Hammersley Not gunna happen. Move along nothing too see here

Alison Alloway Fung still has not raised the finance required.

Rebecca Fauske He has the required minimum to float. The rest of the finance raising process costs hundreds of thousands to complete so of course he is not going to spend that money until approvals are in place.

Dominic Mobbs Actually Rebecca, having been involved in numerous similar projects around the globe including casinos, it's standard practice to arrange underwritten finance for those types of projects to demonstrate your capability to deliver if given the relevant approval. This is the problem with this whole scheme...our council has wasted over $500k on assessing a project that is non-bankable or financeable. The State Govt in insisting that non-billionaire Fung demonstrate financial capability before wasting more time and $ is adopting exactly the right approach.

Darryl Tinney Yawn........................don't hold your breath......

Johnno Nixon From DAY ONE I said he had a hidden agenda and would NOT go ahead, Think I am right!

Jim Cavill well fong actully the block with "his " money out there first hey
Rebecca Fauske Is this STILL not approved yet??? Get on with it!!!!

Adam Sullivan Let it die already. Aquis is a lost cause

Wayney Jay Something stinks about this whole thing.
And it's not the government that stinks.
It's the Fungs.
Their business practises are being investigated overseas.
Both LNP and labor have pretty much bent over for them and the Fungs still have not submitted applications for the IRD process and information on time for probity.
What's their end game ? There's a hidden agenda here.

Aaron S Trembath Go away already.

Jane Linthicum Perhaps we are better off if they offer the license to new applicants.

Roby Butterfield we don't need anther venue to strip assets away from the local people....there are too many pokie places already....we don't need this proposal to go ahead....it will mean the problem gamblers will have even more reasons to lose their money....

Phillip Whykes It is disgusting that it has been side traked by goverments to date. They should be breaking there neckes to get this project underway, and sooner rather than later. I bet if it was the minority that wanted this it would be full steam ahead!!!

Neal Hasslehoff Must be an election coming. Manning trying to raise his boring profile the past few weeks attacking the state government on issues he was totally silent on when the LNP were in. Thanks for reminding me to vote against you Bob. You are exactly the type of arrogant this city does not need. Your Civic centre concept where you have lumped rate payers with a massive bill because you bypassed both state and federal funding shows how out of touch with voters you are. I voted for you last election. It won't be happening again. Oh and I support Aquis but it can be done without you making threats against the government of the day.

Kylie L Anderson Let the Fungs go through due diligence! Like every other hard working battler in the country!

Carol Chalmers Another 457 visa project!! FFS on the off chance that it ever got off the ground, there'd be no Aussie jobs going. Tony Abbott guaranteed that with his sneaky little 457 deals. Stop kidding yourself!

Patsy Morgan Imagine what it will be like with traffic cyclones floods seas rising its not got the infrasructure plus we will need another dam for all the gamblers water needs unless they desalinate the sea then there's all the gamblers we got enough problems with additions of all sorts now plus the ones who spend dole money on drinking gambling ect they will rush to spend money in casino out there

Steve Paris Good on you Bob Manning.

Jonathan Mackay Wish itd hurry up so can sell up!

Lorna Byrnes This man has other businesses in Australia. They will be using local builders and employing locals. I have one customer that has told me when building starts it will bring him home to his family. Bhas been working away for 3 years. Sugar cane and tourism have been our source of income, look around and see how many cane fields are left. We hsve to depend on tourist unless othef people have any other ideas. The men that use these premises bring their families, hence shopping and site seeing

Bill Handebo The CBD is already dead. This will be the last straw for the CBD if this massive development goes ahead. Spend your money on the CBD instead of a swampland that will see massive amounts of money go overseas.

Geoffrey Mitchell 457 visa workers, wake up
Christian Böger Yes we can! Then let's do it

Deszree Edwards Corbett Come on mayor Bob Manning Cairns needs this economic boost.

Daniel Lincoln Good luck with that idiot rob Pyne about. Not a clue that bloke

Daniel Lincoln I would like to know how rob plans to tackle the 20+% unemployment rate without a project like this. News flash rob not everyone wants to work in aged care you fool

Luigi Primo Porcu About time that our representative start fighting for our economy... Un-employment translate to less people spending and more company going belly up.......Ps No JCU degree required just simple math to work it out.....101 kinder math...
