An ACCC statement said Aquis currently had no existing casino interests in Australia or anywhere.
Ms Walker said the ACCC had carefully reviewed the proposed acquisition because it had the potential to reduce the future number of casino owners in Cairns from two to one.
“However, the ACCC’s investigations suggested that there was likely to be limited competition between the Reef Casino and the Aquis Resort in the absence of the proposed acquisition,” she said.
“Development of the Aquis Resort is still at an early stage and is conditional on a number of factors.

Justin you may like to consider the following, why not upgrade the Reef Casino to what you have intended for Yorkeys Knob and keep the casino in the CBD where businesses could get some benefit from the travelling Chinese.
You could save yourself some $7 billion and keep everyone on side and still reap the benefits.
Another suggestion is to acquire the land at East Trinity which would be free in lieu of the dredging, take the dredging from the inlet to build up the land and build a resort similar to the Yorkeys design and you could boat (as in water taxi) the guests over to the casino or better still build the mega resort/casino on the East Trinity land.
